The phrase "under God" was not included in the original version of the Pledge of Allegiance. It was added to the pledge in 1954, during the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower, as a response to the perceived threat of communism during the Cold War. It has been taken out repeatedly over the past years for various reasons… but do you think we should keep it?
